Conclusion – Personal thoughts and recommendations

I didn’t find this movie as bad as everyone’s putting it out to be. Yes, it failed the bechdel test and yes it had no one from the original cast but honestly where I think they messed up was the release date. Personally, I think Disney got a bit too greedy. Disney was (and still is) at the top this mid-year from the release of Avengers: Infinity War and The Incredibles 2, and by releasing the Star Wars film at the same time I believe was just a bit too much pressure for the standalone film in cinemas. Perhaps when it’s released we will see a different outcome but I’m not too confident. With that aside, I thought the change in plot was quite thrilling with the young Han-Luke naïveté comparison. It’s definitely worth a watch in my opinion.

I would recommend this film to anyone who is a fan of the Star Wars series or looking for something new to the storyline as this one is definitely a fresh face amongst the movies.

To conclude, a good thing to keep in mind is that this film is a prequel to the original series so watching it without that context is a bit of a waste.

If you choose to see it, enjoy! And comment your opinion on the film in the comments!
